Wednesday - Chapter 1 Mishanh 2

The world stands on three things: … on the service of Hashem

The Sefer Ohr Zorua cites the story of a certain person who was extremely upright and pious and came to bais medrash early every morning to recite the Pesukei D’zimra with intense pleasantness, carefully pronouncing each word. He continued to do this for many decades until he left this world.

One morning, when the shammash entered the bais medrash he was startled to see the elderly man, who had already died, sitting in his usual place in the bais medrash reciting the Pesukei D’zimra. The shammash was terrified and wanted to run out of the shul. However, he braced himself and asked the man: “You were niftar already a few weeks ago; what are you doing here today?”

The “dead man” replied: “What you say is true. However since my recitation of Pesukei D’zimrah was so pleasant each morning, and I never interrupted my tefillos, I was granted permission to come back to this world and to continue saying the Pesukei D’zimrah.

Even after 120 years, his pleas and prayers were desirable in Shamayim.
